Teas for Stress and Anxiety

Teas for Stress and Anxiety

Good morning, tea friends! While I do hope that you all are having a beautiful and easy week, I recognize that stresses and anxieties are real and present in all of our lives. Whether you are involved in a large project at work, planning a wedding, moving, dealing with little ones home from school for the summer, or anything in between, we all have stressors that cause us angst or uneasiness. While we certainly can't take away these things for you, we want to help you to navigate them and ease them.

First and foremost, I would like to preface this by saying that I am by no means a medical professional. The teas that I will recommend are simply ones that we have found ourselves, or customers here have found, to be helpful in dealing with stress of anxiety - or ones that I have found to be beneficial in doing my own research for the purpose of this article. That being said, if you have any of your own recommendations for some of our teas that have helped you personally, I encourage you to comment below and share your findings with us all!

Now let's get started. It is common knowledge that chamomile is an ingredient that is widely used (and has been since ancient Egyptian times) to invoke calmness and restfulness. Chamomile flowers are 100% caffeine free and really help you to unwind, slow down, and counteract those pesky symptoms of stress and anxiety. Thankfully we have a multitude of blends here at Good Life Tea that utilize chamomile as a key component. I'll list them below with brief descriptions.

Egyptian Delta Nile Chamomile

Sourced directly from the rich banks alongside the Nile River in Egypt, these chamomile flowers are pure gold in color and dried in the desert heat. This herbal tea's only ingredient is these stunning and delicate flowers, providing you with the most of all of their benefits. After sipping this tea, you will notice feelings of serenity and peacefulness start to set in as you unwind from your day. Inhale the floral scents that accompany this and rest easy in knowing that you have done all that you can today and tomorrow's challenges are still at bay.

C of Tranquility

Our C of Tranquility tea is one that we blend here and created to invoke just what the title suggests - tranquility. It is a calming blend comprised of chamomile flowers,  hibiscus, lemongrass, and rosehips. We included our chamomile flowers for their ability to help you ease into the evening and relax. Both hibiscus and rosehips we included mainly for their delightful flavors, but they are also packed with antioxidants to help stave off sickness. Lemongrass is known to help with alleviating heightened blood pressure - a common symptom of stress. If you are feeling overwhelmed, try taking a dip in the C of Tranquility to relax and let us know how you feel!

Gentle Slumber

When stressed, a common issue is having trouble getting to sleep or staying asleep. We have a few blends to help with this, as well. First off is our Gentle Slumber herbal blend. Our Gentle Slumber is a calming blend comprised of chamomile flowers, peppermint, and rooibos. The well known benefits of chamomile are mentioned above. Peppermint, and spearmint, are both known for their properties of helping to regulate hormonal health, especially in women. Hormone levels play an immense role in your stress and anxiety management, so working to keep your hormones in check will help you to manage both. Lastly rooibos provides you with a whole host of antioxidants which will help you to keep sickness or viruses away in a time when you are already under stressors. Sometimes a quick chat with the sandman is all you need to relieve a bit of your anxieties, and our Gentle Slumber tea is a great way to summon him! Next up, our Sleep Better tea!

Sleep Better

Our Sleep Better tea has become increasingly popular and when you get the chance to try it, you will have no question as to why. It is an organic blend made up of valerian root, lemon myrtle, verbena, spearmint, chamomile, and lavender. Valerian root is an ingredient similar to chamomile, in that it has been used for throughout history as a natural sedative and anxiety reducer. Numerous studies have been done to support these findings and thus we highly recommend this tea to any customer that comes to us expressing struggles with stress or anxiety. Both lemon myrtle and verbena, similarly, are natural sedatives, but also add a nice, light citrus taste to this blend. We have touched previously upon the spearmint and chamomile components of this tea, but lastly, the lavender helps to promote restfulness and prolong your periods of REM sleep. Try slowly sipping a cup of this after a stressful day and let us know if it stays true to its namesake and helps your to Sleep Better

One more point of interest I found in doing my research for this post proved that when we are feeling under pressure, stressed, or anxious, it should say to us that our bodies are craving vitamin C. Vitamin C is a molecule that has been shown to have great success as an aid in anxiety relief. Both blueberries and oranges are known for high vitamin C content, and luckily for us, a few of our teas utilize these fruits as ingredients! I will start with our Bingo Blueberry tisane tea. This is a popular tea, especially iced this time of year, and is made up of dried elderberries, raisins,  apple, cornflower petals, hibiscus, and bingo, you guessed it, blueberries, of course! The last tea I'll recommend in this post proves our Bright Orange tisane tea. This tart tea is made up of a blood orange, which adds to the tartness, papaya, and rosehips. The fruity and tropical notes of both the blood orange and papaya are balanced nicely with the floral rosehips.

Should you be feeling stressed as of late, we apologize. We want to help take a bit of that off your plate. Try one of these teas to help or let us know if you have another that works for you! We hope that the remainder of your week proves peaceful, serene, and stress free! Happy sipping! - Kaytea :)
P.S. Don't forget that the Downtown Arts & Music Festival is happening this weekend on Main Street in Canandaigua! There will be over 150 different vendors joining us, as well as our unique shops, breweries, wine bars, galleries, and more! We would love to see you and sip with you this weekend!
